Spent just one hour of your extra day with us as we clean up litter from one of our beautiful parks and greenways. Throughout the month of April, join us for a project as we restore and appreciate the natural beauty found in our parks. We cannot wait to partner with you to make our parks thrive! A Weed Wrangle is a one-day volunteer effort to remove invasive plant species from our public parks and green spaces. Staff and volunteers will be helping remove invasive bush honeysuckle from Central Park and create valuable habitat for our local wildlife. Celebrated on the last Friday of April, Arbor Day is a celebration of what is to come. While most holidays celebrate something that has already happened, Arbor Day represents a hope for the future. This year, join us for Arbor Day to plant and care for native trees. This simple act of planting trees represents a belief that the tree will grow to provide us with clean air and water, cooling shade, habitat for wildlife, healthier communities, and endless natural beauty. Ongoing - Adaptive Program Assistant Category Adaptive Description Join our team as a support volunteer for our adaptive programs! These programs focus on providing skill-building, social, and recreational opportunities for individuals of all ages with cognitive and developmental disabilities. This is an ongoing opportunity--volunteers will work with the Inclusion Supervisor to create a regular schedule. Volunteers in this program must be at least 18 years old. Note: In order to best facilitate connections between our program participants and program volunteers, applicants to this project will be asked to complete a brief questionnaire to determine compatibility with the program. If a volunteer is chosen, they will be required to complete a background check (paid for by CCPR) before beginning their volunteer work. Ongoing - Homework Helper Volunteer Category Extended School Enrichment Description Volunteer Responsibilities: Assist students (K-5) with homework during their designated work time Check students’ homework for completion Requirements Volunteer must be at least 16 years old. Volunteers that are 18 years or older must complete and pass a background check. Volunteers under 18 must provide 2 references to be contacted by CCPR. Volunteers in this role should be comfortable working with children. Desired Skills/Qualifications Some fluency in Spanish is desired, but not required. Time Commitment & Scheduling Volunteer shifts will fall within the timeframe of 3-4:30pm on weekdays, but the number of days and frequency of volunteer shifts is up to you and the Site Supervisor. Volunteers will be briefed and trained by an ESE staff member before beginning Ongoing - Individual Service Project Category Park Stewardship & Nature Education Description This project is set aside for separate projects that do not fall into any other categories. These projects must first be approved by the Volunteer Coordinator or Natural Resources Coordinator. Ongoing - Recess Monitor Volunteer Category Extended School Enrichment Description Volunteer Responsibilities: Assist ESE staff with monitoring students during recess Requirements Volunteer must be at least 16 years old. Volunteers that are 18 years or older must complete and pass a background check. Volunteers under 18 must provide 2 references to be contacted by CCPR.
